About M.

Hello! Thank you for dropping by to hear my thoughts.

My name is Mc Erl Dave Andres, and I use he/him/she/her pronouns. My intersectionality includes Ilokano, Filipino, Gay, Male, Catholic, First-Generation College Graduate, Middle-Class, Immigrant, Feminine, Masculine, Gender-Queer, and Homosexual. Though, as I go through the rollercoaster called life, I find myself connecting who I am to my new-found words, adjectives, or identities.

I was born in the Philippines, and my family and I immigrated to Hawai'i in 2006. I am the youngest of three siblings and the only male in a single-mother household. This part of my life is complex, and trust me; it will have its own post.

I am a recent college graduate. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Gender and Identity Studies. I am not a perfect English major. My writing will never be perfect, but trust me, I will be re-reading my posts over and over again. I know for a fact that even after I publish a post, I will find myself re-reading them, perhaps editing it too. I really enjoyed being an English major; the fact that I could travel, explore, learn, and "see" new sights through the author's imagination was just awe-inspiring. However, I grew more passionate about Gender and Identity Studies because of the complexity of Gender and Identity and its newness as a field of study. But most of all, I think it is the fact that Gender and Identity are so fluid that issues of Gender and Identity Inequity are in any field of study: Education, STEM, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, you name it. The things I learned in my Gender and Identity classes helps me be mindful of future policies and curriculum in my journey to the world of Education.

This blog aims to share my thoughts with the lens of my intersectionality, hence the title: Thoughts from MY Intersection. This is meant for me to share my thoughts in a composed manner, and I promise not to ramble. This blog is not meant to be political and it will sound not very objective. Still, again, it is my thoughts based on my experiences and my identity. This is not to start debates. I do not want to debate with people I do not see eye-to-eye with, though, I am open to listening and hearing your thoughts, and agreeing to disagree.

I hope you check back every week for new posts and subscribe for my latest thoughts. I promise to be as authentic, truthful, and vulnerable and ask that you not judge me based on my thoughts.

Until next time,

M.
